Everyday is Independence Day!!!! Happy 4th!

Something happened this week that made me rethink independence — not for a nation, but for a woman, a mother, a grandmother. That question hit me this morning, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

The Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence.

Susan Asch unanimously (by herself) adopts a Declaration of Independence — for ourselves.

What Does Independence Really Mean Today?

I started thinking about Independence Day and what it means in 2025 — and my head started spinning. What does that really mean?

As a country, I’m uncertain.

As a woman, it means everything.

If you feel you are an independent woman, hold on to it. Hold it close. Always own it — your independence, your peace, and your power.

And if you're not an independent woman, would you like to be? Maybe not — and that’s okay too.

Personally, I wanted my independence from the age of three. I remember it too well. And now, I watch my three-year-old granddaughter becoming independent. It’s natural for kids. They take their independence.

The Power of being Binx, knowing you can do anything

Have you ever reached to help a toddler, only to be pushed away? Why? Because she’s learning to do it herself.

That little girl (or boy) believes she can do anything — because she doesn’t know she can’t.

When they need help, they’ll let you know. Binx’s cry is a simple, “Help me!” Just a clear ask. And then she’s back at it again — fully on her own. She is so independent.

They push boundaries. They expand their world. They know what they want and need and they aren’t willing to give up their independence in the process. Send some time with a three-year-old. You’ll see exactly what I mean.

When Independence Changes

Somewhere along the way — starting with our parents, our schools, our relationships, our spouses — our independence begins to fade. It becomes more limited. Sometimes slowly; sometimes all at once.

Maybe it’s time to take it back.

Maybe you feel tethered — or even shackled — to a lifestyle you never really chose. It happens to some — maybe most — of us.

Just like in 1776, maybe it’s time to declare your own personal independence.

Giving It Up, Taking It Back

My life has been a series of giving it up and taking it back. The most freeing moments I've experienced is when that one little or huge decision is made and I become different.... in that moment ...when I take back and own my control. Right in that instance, I am new!!! I am ready!

It's the thought or decision that frees you.  It makes you feel like you've been floating attached to a tether and as you are released, you are saying higher.  I can go higher and I do. It's magical  It is at that moment when you know you have done it.  You have taken or are taking the control of your life back.  You embrace that independence you always owned and now it is back with you.... where it always belonged.

What Independence Means to Me

There are so many definitions related to Independence.  To me, it gives me my own options to make my own decisions (I didn't say they are always good, but they are mine).  It let's me own my own voice to express my opinions and create my own path. Guess what? You don't need to agree with me. It's okay!  But it's my independence and my personal freedom and I own it.

It's Independence Day

Let's reclaim our independence.  Let's be us, the independent person we were meant to be.  When we look in the mirror in the morning, we can say to ourselves, I like you...a lot... and I think this is fabulous.

Ox (hugs & kisses),
Susan
